About this activity

Agrigento settles on the acropolis of the ancient Greek city. Its urban plan combines 25 centuries of history and architectural styles. The most remarkable monuments are the Chiaramontano complex of the Monastery of Santo Spirito (18th century) and the Church of San Lorenzo (18th century). Both churches feature valuable treasures, such as the Baroque plaster decorations by Giacomo Serpotta (18th century), one of the most famous Sicilian artists, whose works have remained unsurpassed. Remarkable is the Norman Cathedral of San Gerlando (11th century), among the oldest in Sicily, as well as the Church of Santa Maria dei Greci (13th century), founded in Byzantine epoque on the foundations of a Doric temple, the remains of which are accessible from the crypt of the church. Agrigento is known as "City of Temples" for its expanse of Doric temples of the ancient Greek city placed in the so-called Valley of the Temples, which in 1997 was included among the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The route runs along the Via Atenea, theancient "living room" of the city, where you can taste and buy typical sweet Sicilian pastries. In addition, you can visit the Monastery of Santo Spirito and the bell tower of the Cathedral. Do not miss this great opportunity to discover the most authentic side of Agrigento, a city suspended between a glorious past and a present full of challenges.
