About this activity

The archaeological site of Eraclea Minoa extends along a white promontory, overlooking an enchanting seascape. Its name seems to refer to the myth of the passage of Heracles and the king of Crete Minos, in an ancient Sicily. The myth tells that Minos was buried in this area, after having tried, unsuccessfully, to have Daedalus returned by King Kokalos.

Inside the site you can admire the remains of the ancient defensive walls, defense towers, several remains of houses and the ruins of a theater. All the material found during the archaeological excavations, on the other hand, is exhibited in the Antiquarium at the entrance of the site.
