Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is a Dutch national museum founded in 1800 in The Hague. It moved to Amsterdam in 1808.The current building that houses the Rijksmuseum dates back to 1885. The museum has on display 8,000 objects of art and history, from their total collection of 1 million objects from the years 1200–2000, among which are some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes Vermeer. The museum also has a small Asian collection, which is on display in the Asian pavilion.

Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum is a definite must see while in Amsterdam. It is an art museum with the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh paintings, alongside drawings & letters as well as paintings from others who were affected by him or who affected him. The museum is located on the same square as the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum and Amsterdam’s Concert Hall. The Van Gogh Museum opened in 1973. A visit to this museum is a mystical and spiritual adventure. The museum is usually very busy and queues may be long, so book this layover tour to avoid any disappointment of waiting a long time to get in.
