About this activity

Kinderdijk is the home to most the famous of all of the Dutch icons, the windmills. This tour takes you from Amsterdam in an AC minivan across the Dutch landscape to Kinderdijk, declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. Kinderdijk lies in a polder, and to drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands and world famous in their own right. Once you arrive at Kinderdijk, you will be taken to the tourist centre where a short movie will introduce you to the attributes of Kinderdijk which make it unique. Explore the region and your guide will help you learn about the many dykes, mills and pumping stations that maintain the unique characteristic that this town possesses.
