It is approximately 18 km in diameter and home to an estimated 25000 mammals. The caldera is truly amazing and more impressive when you have reached the crater floor and had a chance to look around you, you will realize how breathtaking it is. Alongside elephants, zebras, wildebeests and buffalos, you will find a collection of antelopes and gazelles as well as hippopotamus, warthogs and hyenas. There is also a very good chance that you will see leopards, lions and the black rhino, which unfortunately is threatened with extinction. After breakfast, you will leave the crater highlands and continue the “Northern Circuits” tour to the next national park in Tanzania. This park offers areas of dense woodland in which the long tailed Guenon monkeys as well as baboons, antelopes, gazelles and nearly 500 elephants live. The Manyara National Park is also known for its lions that like to lounge around in trees – this behavior is not common among big cats and makes for quite a sight.
