You’ll make your first stop of the day at the Arataki Visitor Centre, where you can gaze out at the panoramic vistas of Auckland and its two harbours. This cultural centre also offers unique insight into Maori culture thanks to a variety of Maori carvings on display. You can also learn more about local wildlife in the area, including the ‘weta’ insect and the sky-high ‘Kauri’ trees

Continue deeper into this wilderness area by heading to the nearby Piha region. Make your last activity stop of the morning at one of Piha’s black-sand beaches, a site where you can explore the famous Lion Rock, take a quick dip, or simply sit back and watch the pounding surf.
