Tibidabo Amusement Park
Built in 1901, Tibidabo Amusement Park is a century old park and one of the oldest amusement parks in the world and definitely the oldest one in Spain. It stands on Mount Tibidabo at the highest point on the Collserola Ridge. Situated just 15 kilometers from the center of Barcelona, Mount Tibidabo offers some splendid sights of Barcelona. Since its inception, the various rides and attractions have been continuously revamped and extended, to keep it appealing to visitors of all ages.
Miramiralls Hall of Mirrors has several concave-convex mirrors on display, warping and distorting images. Originally installed at the Tibidabo funicular stations, these mirrors attached huge audiences. From 2008, it was moved to the Hall of Mirrors at the amusement park.
One of the most popular attractions of Tibidabo is the L'Avió airplane ride. Also known as the Red Aeroplane of Tibidabo, it simulates the feeling of going in an early 20th-century plane. The last work of the great Dr. Andreu, the attraction is a replica of the first aircraft to fly between the two metropolitans of Barcelona and Madrid.
The Automata Museum is one the greatest collection of automatic machines in the world. With devices from across Europe, dating from as far back as 1880, the collection attracted the attention of Walt Disney, who was interested in purchasing it.
Some pieces, such as “The Mandolin Clown,” “The Prodigious Orchestra,” and “Lay Monyos” date as far back as 1880, and only since 1982, have become part of the Automata Museum. L'Embruixabruixes, known initially as the aerial railway, was the first major ride at Tibidabo. It underwent several renovations, and with multiple technological innovations and light, sound and visual effects, great views of Barcelona can be seen during the ride. Opposite the amusement park, at the summit of Mount Tibidabo, there is a beautiful church, called the Sagrat Cor. built in 1806, it underwent renovations in 1902. The Neo-Gothic church was designed and constructed by the prolific architect Enric Sagnier. A statue dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it is one of the most popular tourist attraction on the outskirts of Barcelona.
