About this activity
Punta Caracol is a 20-minute boat ride from Bocas. It is one of the most protected shallow reefs, marked by many buoys. It is not easily accessible unless you have the luck to be on a BDC boat, so it is in much better condition and less disturbed than many other reefs. At about 10 metres you will see snapper, lobster, squid, and a host of other marine life that has not been viewed often or disturbed. The dive site features one of the widest (and oldest) variety of coral formations in the area, which stretch along a two-kilometer run. There are lots of fish and some spectacular heads of hard coral between 6-10m, decreasing in size as you descend. Most of the reef is angled, but there are some sections where its like a mini-wall. Hawkslbill and green turtles, though uncommon, can be seen here from April-early June. There are not a lot of visitors to this dive site and thats why it is preserved in an excellent diving quality.
