About this activity
Meet your guide at the equestrian statue at Revolution Square and then set off for an informative and entertaining walking tour of Bucharest, traversing the city and the centuries as you get a great orientation on the Romanian capital. Start with an overview of the place and its history. Learn, for example, that right there in square in 1989 was where the longtime dictator Ceausescu made a speech that unexpectedly turned the crowd against him, thus toppling the ruler and hastening democratic rule in Romania.

Stroll along Victory Street and hear about the origins of the name of the street, as you pass Telephone Palace, the Military Circle and the erstwhile National Theater. After this, walk into the city's historical section where narrow streets and medieval monuments compete for your attention and awe.

Walk past the vast and imposing People's Palace, the home and office of the former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. Learn about the building of the palace and how the meglomaniac Ceaușescu used up mass amounts of energy in the palace when the rest of the country was in a poverty.

Finally, the tour of Bucharest concludes with a sampling of the culinary specialities and local drinks at a traditional hanu or inn. Dig into a three-course meal with platters of local delicacies — giving you a 'taste tour' of the history and geography of the region.
