About this activity
Itinerary: Bucharest - Targoviste - Curtea de Arges - Poenari - Bucharest
The day trip will start from your hotel where you will be picked up by your guide who will drive 80 km to the town of Targoviste, where you will visit the Princely Court (inside visit) from where Vlad Dracula ruled over Wallachia. Here you will find the imposing ruins of the feudal residence of Dracula and his family of rulers, climb to the top of the high Chindia Tower, visit the old mysterious Orthodox Church to understand more about religion in the time of Vlad and the spooky cellars of the establishment while imagining how it all looked like centuries ago in the bloody middle ages.
From here you will head to the beautiful town of Curtea de Arges, the other important Princely Court of Wallachia in medieval days and discover their ruins, as well as two old and superb churches: the Princely Church (inside visit) dating back to the 13th century and the Monastery of Curtea De Arges (inside visit) that hides a scary story about human sacrifice.
The next stop is further up the road, up in the Carpathian Mountains on the banks of the river Arges, mentioned in the novel Dracula, where you will visit the Poenari Fortress (inside visit). This 15th century stronghold standing atop the cliff was built under the command of Vlad Dracula and it was a place that went through a lot of bloody episodes, all of which you will hear during your stay here. One important fact you must know about Dracula: he was very fit as in order to reach the fortress you will have to climb over 1400 steps.
