Cairo is home to a vast number of mosques, or masjids as they’re called in Arabic, and we’ll take you to see a selection of the most significant ones on our full-day private tour of Islamic Cairo tour.

We’ll start the day picking you up at your hotel and head to the Citadel fortress. You will be accompanied by an Egyptologist guide for the full tour.

At the Citadel, you’ll see the Mohammed Ali Mosque, which is also known as the alabaster mosque. The Citadel was built by Salah-El-Din during the 12th century.

Our next stop will be the Masjid of Sultan Hassan, built in the period 1356-1363. It is considered one of the finest examples of Mamluk architecture in Cairo. It is also one of the largest masjids not only in Cairo but in the entire Islamic world.

We continue our tour with a visit to the Refa’i Masjid, located adjacent to Sultan Hassan Mosque. This masjid was constructed in 2 separate phases during the years 1869-1912.

After a stop for lunch we’ll make our final masjid visit. We’ll see the Masjid of Ahmed Ibn Tulun, built on Mount Yashkur. This is among Cairo’s most visited Islamic monuments and one of its earliest.
