Constantia Wine Valley Bike Tour in Cape Town

About this activity
Constantia is nestled beneath the Table Mountain National Park and has commanding vistas of the Constantiaberg and Table Mountain. The Constantia Valley truly is Cape Town’s Vineyard and winemaking history which dates back to 1685 and boasts eight award-winning wine estates: Groot Constantia, Steenberg Vineyards, Constantia Uitsig, Buitenverwachting, Eagles Nest, Constantia Glen and Silvermist Vineyards. All vineyards are within 15 kilometres of the city centre!
Our day of exploration starts at Groot Constantia, the country's oldest estate which dates back to 1685 and is often referred to as “the birthplace of South African wine”. Before our first tasting, we walk through the beautiful grounds and visit the museum. We ride through the gorgeous scenery to a nearby award-winning vineyard for our second tasting. The wine estates in the Constantia Valley have historic manor houses and the guides share with you their role in the early settler history of the Cape.
We continue to a third winery where we enjoy a gourmet lunch and then cycle onward to our final tasting of the day, Steenberg. Which was owned by the confident Catherina Ras; and she was the first lady in the Cape to own land. Enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte and royalty in the 18th century, Constantia Valley’s unique combination of terrain and climate produces some of the world’s finest wines that continue to this day to win accolades and international awards for consistently high standard and quality. Your day will be filled with wonderful experiences.
