Hermanus & Whale Route by trike

1 day
About this activity
A scenic ride to Hermanus via the N2 to the Strand, Gordens Bay, the breathtakingly beautiful Clarence Drive (more below) to Rooi Els, Kleinmond, and Hermanus. Return via the Houwhoek Pass to Grabouw, the majestic Sir Lowry’s Pass back along the N2. The scenic R44 Clarence Drive departs from Gordons Bay to Rooiels, Pringle Bay, Betty`s Bay and Kleinmond along a steep coastal road carved from rocky sea cliffs. There are magnificent views across False Bay to Table Mountain and the rest of the Cape Peninsula. Clarence Drive provides pleasant whale watching spots, all along the route where you can stop and watch the Southern Right Whales visit the sheltered shallow bays of the South African coastline each year. Clarence Drive leads through the Kogelberg Biosphere, the first and only Biosphere in South Africa to be proclaimed by United Nations` Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO): a testament to the stunning diversity and a large number of its flowering plants, many of which are found nowhere else in the fynbos biome. The whole Hangklip-Kleinmond area (Rooiels, Pringle Bay, Betty`s Bay and Kleinmond) is to be managed according to international principles, which aim to combine conservation, sustainable use of natural resources and wise development. Hermanus: With its unparalleled scenic beauty, modern infrastructure, upmarket shops and endless adventure options, it’s little wonder that Hermanus has grown in size and popularity during the last decade. Visitors from near and far flock to the town to enjoy its many charms while local residents and homeowners savour the privilege of living in this unique region.
