About this activity
The tour begins at the Municipal Market in the heart of Chania. Pick up is at 14:00 in the east side parking lot (Plateia Markopoulou).
On the way to the first winery, you will learn the 4000 year old legacy of Cretan wine and how the geography and history of the island has shaped the wine industry. At the first winery, you will learn the proper steps in wine tasting. Examining the color, smell, and flavors of each wine will increase your appreciation for each of the 10 wines that will be sampled that day. A brief description of winemaking will also be given at the first winery. Traditional snacks are provided.
On the way to the second winery, there is a short stop at the oldest olive tree in the world. Your guide will explain the importance of olive oil on Crete and how olive oil was traditionally made. Take pictures and walk with your guide through the museum where some ancient farming equipment will be pointed out and explained.
At the second winery, your guide will walk you through the vineyards. Our guides are grape growers and know intimately the grape growing process. Any viticultural questions are welcome.
In the tasting room of the second winery, enjoy 5 more wine samples and an ample snack of locally grown vegetables, cheese, and their award winning olive oil.
Your guide will return you safely to the parking lot of the municipal market at the completion of the tour.
