Half Day
About this activity
On the trip, ride 15 km outside the city and up 3,500 feet above sea level to visit the temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the most sacred temple in Chiang Mai. Exercise your heart, body and soul by ascending 306 steps to the temple which is guarded by two magnificent nagas (serpents). Constructed in 1383, this symbol of Chiang Mai contains the holy relic of the Lord Buddha which is enshrined in a magnificent, glowing golden pagoda. Take in fantastic views of the entire city and the surrounding areas as seen from the temple grounds. Walk around the grounds of Doi Suthep past golden pillars, six foot gongs and rows of bells. A five-tiered parasol made of gold, which marks the city's independence from Burma and its union with Thailand, sits on display in the inner courtyard. The beautiful Wat Prathat Doi Suthep can be seen from miles away. A must-see attraction in Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep is one of the most famous and beautiful temples in the region. Located on a mountain, the temple is part of Doi Suthep National Park, a richly forested area supporting some 330 species of birds.
