About this activity
Explore the hill tribes north of Chiang Mai on this full-day tour round the mountain villages and tropical forest of northern Thailand.

Your 10-hour excursion starts with a scenic 3.5-hour drive to Thaton, former capital of an ancient Mon kingdom. Stop at a Hmong hill tribe village to learn more about the ethnic group that originated in southern China.

After lunch at a local restaurant, embark on a 30-minute boat trip along the Mae Kok River to Baan Mai. Then drive by minivan to discover hill-tribe villages of the Akha, Palong, and Karen peoples. See the brass rings that the Karen women wear on their necks; the number increasing according to their age.

Back in Thaton, explore the hillside temple of Wat Thaton and enjoy panoramic views of the villages, Mae Kok River, and dense rainforests of the mountain range.
