Pass By: Traveling Spoon, Chiang Mai Thailand

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. After being picked up from your hotel you will be taken to a traditional Chiang Mai home with a magnificent garden. Your host Pea started to cook when she was 12, waking up early in the morning with her mother to do the family shopping in order to select the best ingredients. She'll help you do the same in her garden as you pick fresh lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves before you head to her kitchen to chop, pound and grind as you learn to make an authentic Thai meal from scratch. Sitting around the table that your chef designed to teach her sons how to cook, you will enjoy the delicious, authentic meal you helped prepare.

Begin your meal with an appetizer like Miang kham (a local snack of fresh betel leaves with lime, coconut, and peanuts). Your menu includes dishes such as beef noodle soup, kaeng khiao wan (chicken green curry), kai kraphrao khai dao (stir fried chicken with holy basil) and rice noodles. At the end of your meal together, you will enjoy refreshing coconut ice cream or mango sticky rice (when in season) for dessert, before being driven back to your hotel. Depart with new recipes, a new friend and lifelong memories.
