Make A Magical Silk Hoop!

Painting on silk hoops is a nice introduction to the art of silk painting. In this class you will decorate an 8 inch silk disk. In the process, you will learn about resists and different types of paint.
When you apply paint to silk it spreads out like grape juice on a piece of tissue. You will be applying a resist to outline your design and contain the colors. You will then fill in the spaces with beautiful, translucent silk paint.
When you hang these disks in a window they glow like stained glass windows! This is a fun and meditative process and it can be used to create sophisticated images or simple designs. It is a perfect project for a mixed-age group of people and for people of varying art abilities. If you have a design you want to trace you can bring it with you.
You also can just work freehand and make your own picture. I'll have some sacred geometry stencils you can use. If you are not confident in your ability to apply gutta with a steady hand you can tell me ahead of time and I can have a hoop already prepared with a flower of life pattern and then you can just enjoy the painting part. We can communicate ahead of the class about your design, if you have questions.
