BREAKFAST

What better way to begin your day than savouring an authentic Sri Lankan breakfast?

MADU RIVER SAFARI

Then, go on a relaxing boat safari that takes you to the heart of the Madu River, which is rich in biodiversity. See up close crocodiles, monkeys, cormorants, kingfishers and many more species in their natural habitats. You can also indulge in an invigorating and slightly-ticklish fish massage!

FACE TO FACE WITH A SEA TURTLE IN THE OCEAN

We leave behind the serenity of the Madu River and make our way to the sprawling Hikkaduwa Beach. The adrenaline gets pumping as you get to witness a local fight the turbulent sea waves just to lure a mammoth sea turtle to shore! Feed the gentle but hardy sea turtle seaweed, and take lots of enviable photos with it.

If so inclined, spend an hour or two at the beautiful Hikkaduwa Beach — soak up the sun and work up a tan!

GALLE FORT

Finally, we will head over to Galle Fort so you can tick off your UNESCO World Heritage Site bucket list! This historical and architectural heritage fortification was first built in 1588 by the Portuguese, then further enhanced by the Dutch from 1649 onwards. The fort is backdropped by streets and alleyways dotted with a plethora of trendy shops, cafés, restaurants and churches.

TURTLE HATCHERY (OPTIONAL)

Wish to learn more about sea turtles? We will head to a turtle conservation centre, whose residents include the green, hawksbill and leatherback turtles. Many of the sea turtles were brought to the owners by fishermen, as they were injured by boat propellers, fish nets and even sharks. The owners of the conservation centre nurse them back to health so that they can take on the roiling sea again. Did I mention you can hold the oh-so-adorable baby turtles in your palm too?
