DAY 1 : Cusco – Paradise Lodge (bus & hikes)

On the first day of our 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, we will pick you up very early from your hotel or meeting point. This first day, of our journey, it will take us through the majestic Andean mountains that boasts heaps of flora and fauna typical of the Andean mountains. We will see on this route birdlife such as mountain Cacara, Puna Ibis and the Andean flicker.

On our way to the forest, we will see the pre-Inca Lupaca culture burial towers before arriving at the colonial-era village of Paucartambo. The village of Paucartambo, is the gateway to the forests of Manu for centuries and here we will visit some colonial buildings.

Finished our break, we will be continuing our 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, leaving Paucartambo and travelling until we get to Acjanaco Pass (3,850 meters / 12,630 feet) this is the entrance to Manu National Park. From this location we will have the views of the Amazon basin and below us the road that will takes us down through Andean grasslands and into the cloud forest.

The ecosystem on this side of the region is rich in flora and fauna such as the habitat of the cock-of-the-rock, crested and golden quetzals, blue-crowned motmots, gray breasted mountain toucans and many species of butterflies, ferns and orchids. At the end of this unique trip, you will spend your first night in our comfortable Paradise Lodge, in the heart of the Amazon cloud forest (1,470 meters / 4,821 feet).

DAY 2 : Paradise Lodge – Lodge (bus, hikes & boat)

This morning our 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, start by leaving very early our lodge and immerse into the forests surrounding the lodge to observe the cock-of-the-rock as the males of the species perform their daily courtship ritual.

Finish this first encounter with nature in the morning, we will be taken a good breakfast at the lodge and leave our lodge embarking from the port of Atalaya for our boat trip to Pilcopata a place ideal for birders and short hikes into the forest. Once at Pilcopata, we will pass by pineapple and coca leaf plantations and enjoying plenty of bird watching species, as we look out for spix guans, plumbeous kites, black vultures, quetzals, motmots, green jays, paradise tanagers, bay-headed tanagers, orange-eared tanagers and golden tanagers as well as local fauna such as squirrel monkeys and brown capuchin monkeys. During your 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, our naturalist guide will provide detailed information about this unique ecosystem. We will spend most of our time in the forest before heading back to the lodge.

After dinner, a short hike will present the opportunity to observe nocturnal life along the trails surrounding the local Amazon forest lodge in which you'll spend the night.

The night will be spent at our Paradise Lodge.

DAY 3 : Amazon Basin – Clay Lick - Paradise Lodge (boat & bus)

Our 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, will begin with a different activity, we will leave Paradise Lodge, early in the morning to see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a mineral-rich riverbank clay deposit. A huge variety of species such as Cuvier's toucans, Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Red and Green macaws, Blue-headed Parrot, Dusky headed Parakeet and other species, descending at this clay lick. The clay lick is active at dawn during the late mornings and mid-afternoons, afterwards, of seeing this magnificent colorful show, we will returning to the lodge for breakfast

This 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, continues with a hiking along the forest trails, we will stopping to watch other bird species enjoy their mornings with us and head to the lodge for a typical regional lunch.

After lunch, will be returning to the river, where you will ride a boat to Atalaya to continue with our bird watching. Later on, on our way back one of our cars’ will be waiting to drive you back to Paradise Lodge in comfort.

DAY 4 : Paradise Lodge – Cusco (bus)

We have full days of birding in upper tropical rainforest while based at the lovely elevation of the Paradise lodge with hummingbirds at feeders in the garden, like the Rufous-crested Coquette, the Violet-fronted Hummingbird, Tawny-bellied Screech-Owls, and potoos calling outside our rooms at night, and a great trail system leading from the garden into several different habitat types.

On our last 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise tour, this morning you will carry on exploring the surrounding areas of the lodge and observe the cock-of-the-rock perform its daily ritual at the lick. After breakfast time, our private bus will come to collect us to return to Cusco, following the same route to Paucartambo. Once in Paucartambo the last part of 4 day Manu bird watchers paradise trip road will follow the course of the Qenqomayo River to Colquepata and on to the high pass at Apacheta (4,100 meters/13,448 feet). From the high pass, the bus descends into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, famous for its impressive buildings. We will have a moment to enjoy the incredible views of the countryside, which is dotted with unique traditional Andean villages inhabited by weavers, llama herders and farmers. The Sacred valley will show us its amazing views of Pisac archaeological site until finally we get to the Cusco city.

You will be taken back to your hotel accommodation in Cusco city.
