About this activity
Visit: Glaciarium, Camino al Glaciar Perito Moreno a 6 km de El Calafate, El Calafate Argentina

Board your shuttle at the Tourism Bureau every hour between 9am and 7pm for transport to the Glaciarium center. The center's architecture is quite unique and the facade of the building is reminiscent of the face of a glacier.

You will see models, dioramas, photographs, screens, and other interactive presentations housed within two halls. As soon as you set foot inside the exhibit area, natural sounds of ice caves, water droplets and breeze create a special atmosphere to make you forget where you are. There is a surprise around every corner with a large amount of information including how ice forms and the history of early explorers and scientists. Stand in awe of fabulous photography from renowned photographers such as Florian Von der Fecht, Andres Bonetti and Daniel Wagner, to name just a few.

Learn about the origin of the universe and earth and the various glaciations. Further inside you will find a large 3D model of the Southern Patagonia Ice Field and the glaciers in the region. Interactive screens aid in explaining the different phenomena related to glaciers. There is also an area dedicated to Francisco Pascasio Moreno, one of Argentina's primary explorers. Another exhibit explains in detail the behavior of the Perito Moreno Glacier, giving the feeling of being right there by the snout of the glacier. The second hall ends with an impressive synchronized projection portraying a tunnel that makes you think about the earth's environmental problems and holds an important message about the future of your planet.

The venue offers a 33-foot by 30-foot (10-meter by 9-meter) foyer for art exhibitions and other cultural events, located just before entering the movie theater. The space houses painting or photography exhibitions and is also used for special events.

The Alberto M. Agostini Auditorium, a movie theater with 90 fixed seats, can hold up to 130 people. Every hour two documentaries are screened including a 3D documentary about the Glaciers National Park and Flight Over the Glaciers. You can also enjoy a spectacular aerial movie produced with the latest Cineflex technology that shows the glaciers and the Ice-Field like nobody has seen them.

When your independent tour concludes an hourly shuttle will return you to El Calafate.
