About this activity

Palazzo Pitti is one of Florence’s biggest museum. It is a powerful looking,13th century building that holds 5 museums within its halls and is directly connected to the beautiful Boboli Gardens.

This ticket includes dedicated entrance to four of the main museums within the palace:

  • Galleria Palatina
  • Gallery of Modern Art
  • Museum of Fashion and Costume
  • Treasure of the Grand Dukes

Galleria Palatina

The Galleria Palatina, along with the building’s Royal Apartments, takes up all of the ‘piano nobile’ or left-wing of the Palace. The de’ Medici family that used this building as their residence, having moved out of Palazzo Vecchio and seat of the government, were great patrons of the arts. The most important paintings they collected over generations were hung in the Galleria Palatina. The paintings cover the walls of the 17th century rooms as their rich frames sat on top of the fresco decorations of the six rooms, overlooking the square in front of the Palace. Names of great artists such as Raphael, Titian, Correggio, Rubens, Pietro da Cortona are found here, along with other famous artists of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. A visit to the Palatine Gallery (Galleria Palatina) includes the visit of the 14 rooms that belong to the Royal Apartments.

Gallery of Modern Art

The Gallery of Modern Art is to be found on Palazzo Pitti’s second floor and is dedicated to Italian art that comes from the 18th century all the way up to World War I. The beautiful rooms of the Palace that now belong to the Gallery were once the residence of Lorraine Grand Dukes and are decorated in neoclassical and romantic works of art. Another feature of this Gallery is the section dedicated to artists of the Macchiaioli movement of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Museum of Fashion and Costume

This costume gallery is a true antique museum of fashion with nearly 600 gowns and dresses that show Florentine fashion and its development over the centuries.

Treasure of the Grand Dukes

Holding a good portion of the treasure that once belonged to the de’ Medici family, this museum fascinates visitors with vases, gold work, precious stones and more.
