Zino's Petrel breeding night expedition

Itinerary

The Zino’s Petrel expedition is a nocturnal visit to the Petrel's breeding grounds that allows you to hear the calls that they use to communicate. After 40 minutes driving from Funchal, we reach Pico do Areeiro (1818m), the third highest peak in Madeira Island and part of the central mountainous massif.

Then we'll visit Madeira’s Petrel Center, where it's possible to know more about conservation history through an exhibit that describes the work done in the last 25 years.

From Pico do Areeiro we'll have a short walk of about 25 minutes. After arriving at the spot we will turn off all the lights and wait to hear the calls of this rare Pterodroma.
