Elbląg-Ostróda Channel is absolutely unique, the longest and still working (130 km) inland waterway system in Europe.
This day trip will provide you with many wonderful impressions. On some stretches of the route the ship moves on the ground on special platforms with metals, passing hills thank to sluice system. The level difference between the first and the last lock is 103,4 m.
Works for this extraordinary channel started already in 1848, it was opened in 1860.
The waterway leeds through the fascinating world of water birds. The Dransensee is a nature reserve for protected water birds.
You may also visit a small channel museum in Buczyniec (entrance not included).
