About this activity

Welcome to Heidelberg, a charming place and attractive destination with important tourist attractions that covers all areas of interest. Surrounded by forest, Germany's oldest and most famous university town is renowned for its baroque Old Town, spirited student atmosphere, beautiful riverside setting and evocative half-ruined hilltop castle. Heidelberg is one of Germany's most enchanting cities, so don’t miss the opportunity to visit this Romantic town that inspired many artists!

The tour starts in the Old Town, the heart of the city life. Stroll through one of the longest pedestrian areas in Europe and enjoy the wonderful mix of old and new buildings, narrow streets, market squares, shops, restaurants and museums and hear about the story of the Heidelberg Student's Kiss. Have a look at the Church of the Holy Spirit the most famous church in Heidelberg, one of the few buildings in the city to survive the many wars during the past centuries. Pass by the local University and learn how it was founded in 1386 on instruction of Pope Urban VI.

You will walk to Heidelberg's Old Bridge to enjoy the amazing view of the Castle and to see the bronze monkey. The monkey is said to be good luck. Rubbing the mirror will bring you money; rubbing his fingers will ensure your return to Heidelberg; and rubbing the little bronze mice nearby will bring you fertility. In the second part of the tour you will climb to the Castle of Heidelberg, one of the main landmarks of the city, for a great panoramic view of the old town. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.
