About this activity
You will be picked up from your hotel in the afternoon and driven to Falaknuma Palace, located on top of a hill overlooking the city of Hyderabad.
On your arrival, you will be met by the Palace Historian who will give you a brief history of the Palace before taking you on a guided tour. The starting point of the tour is the Nizam's study. Next visit the Palace Library that is a replica of the one at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom. The carved walnut roof of the library is a delight to behold. The library has an extensive collection of Qurans and over 6000 books including collections and original first edition books such as the Titanic and Encyclopedia from the early 1900’s.
The palace has 60 rooms, 22 halls, grand marble staircases and sloshing fountains. Enchanting statues and priceless objets d’art are to be found in the halls illuminated by Carrera marble lamps and adorned with portraits of the Nizams looming down in giant rococo frames.
The State Reception Room is perhaps the grandest hall of the palace with its ceiling decorated with frescoes. The ballroom with its two-ton manually operated organ, said to be the only one of its kind in the world, is another equally imposing hall. Its great Venetian chandeliers, gilt ceiling, teak and walnut furniture, and miles and miles of silk transport you to another era.
The billiards table in the palace is one of the two tables that were designed by Burroughs and Watts of United Kingdom. The second table is in Buckingham Palace.
The Hookah Lounge, with its multi-stemmed water pipes, chaise-longues and embossed leather walls is another delightful piece of artistry.
The cavernous dining room of the palace has the longest dining table in the world. The table is 108 feet long and is made from teak and rosewood. It can seat 101 guests and was once laid with the Nizam's gold cutlery and plates.
The Mughal, Rajasthani and Japanese gardens that were personally conceived by the Nizam adorn the palace.
At the end of the tour, enjoy an included High Tea in one of the restaurants of the Palace Hotel.
After tea, you will be driven back to your hotel.
