The Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial is located in Orlando West, Soweto, two blocks away from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed. The museum is named in his honour. It became one of the first museums in Soweto when it opened on 16 June 2002. The Museum also commemorates the students on 1976 who rejected the introduction of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in their schools and embarked on a historic march on the 16th of June 1976.
