About this activity
First we drive to Soweto during which Trevor will give you an overview of the background of Apartheid in South Africa leading up to the events that took place at the sites you'll be visiting. He'll also talk about various landmarks coming in to Soweto.
Then we will walk through Vilakazi Street, stopping at each house of significance - Mandela house, Tutu house, The church, the school, the police station and the spot where Hector Pieterson was shot. We'll go in to the Hector Pieterson museum and also visit a great souvenir shopping spot, before we take some time for lunch at one of the restaurants on Vilakazi street.
Next we will visit the Sisulu home and go past Orlando hostel which was to accommodate migrant workers, before heading to Regina Mundi, the church used for incognito resistance meetings. From there on the way back we can go past various other points of interest depending on time and the guests interests.
