The Maui Ocean Center Humpbacks of Hawaii Exhibit & Sphere explores this great mystery in a captivating, inspirational experience that will leave you with more questions than answers. Until now, we’ve only been able to see humpbacks from above the ocean surface. Today, Maui Ocean Center’s Sphere breaks the barrier to do what has never been done before: bring you eye-to-eye with Maui’s humpback whales in their realm beneath the waves.

The collective experience stirs one’s emotions from admiration to curiosity, forging a new connection between mankind and nature’s marvels. The Humpbacks of Hawaii Exhibit & Sphere is the first of its kind in Hawaii, adding an exciting chapter to the story and legacy of Hawaii's humpback whales.
• The exhibit hall will focus on the whales’ nomadic lifestyle and migration routes taken globally, regionally, and within Hawaii, underlining the fact that it is a creature in constant travel. It will highlight the whale’s behaviors at any given point of their migration while explaining the different roles they engage in.
• Then, visitors will have the opportunity to enter the Sphere to experience these behaviors in a one-of-a-kind, virtual encounter with Maui’s humpback whales in their own environment.
• The Sphere is designed to create an experience “too big for a tank”, humpback whales will come to life through active 3D glasses and 4k imagery produced by multiple laser projectors. The virtual experience utilizes the most advanced systems in lenses and seaming technology.
