Your tour begins in the city centre with your guide recounting the history of Kazan’s glorious fortress, during which time, you will get a glimpse into the conflict and struggle for unity between the two faiths, Christianity and Islam. Your guide will then lead you inside the Kremlin.

The Kazan Kremlin is the symbol of the city, the heart of the republic, the residence of the president of Tatarstan and an architectural conservation area on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was built in the 16th century on the fresh ruins of Tatar khan's fortress.

This was the name of the mosque that once stood inside the walls of Khan's Kremlin. According to historical records, it was a majestic building, and it boasted a large library. Some historians maintain that the mosque was named Kul Sharif in honour of a mid-16th-century Kazan Imam who was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. The mosque was destroyed by the fire that engulfed the city when it was besieged and captured by the troops of Ivan the Terrible in 1552.

The construction commenced on a new mosque in 1997 and was completed in 2005. The podium on which the mosque rests (as many as 10,000 people can fit in there at the same time) is a great place for a panoramic photo shoot.

Annunciation Cathedral of Kazan Kremlin was the first Orthodox church within the walls of the Kazan Kremlin. Initially, a wooden church was quickly built under direction of Tsar Ivan IV in 1552, before it was replaced by a stone cathedral. The cathedral became the center of religious and educational life and missionary efforts in the province of Kazan.

Stop At: Leaning Suyumbike Tower, Kazan Kremlin, Kazan Russia

Syuyumbike Tower, also called the Khan's Mosque, is probably the most familiar landmark and architectural symbol of Kazan. Once the highest structure of that city's kremlin, it used to be one of the so-called leaning towers. By the early 20th century, its inclination was estimated at 194 centimeters (76 in). Diverse stabilization methods were used to straighten the tower in the 1930s and 1990s, and it no longer leans.

You will see the Governor’s Palace and the burial sites of the Kazan Khans.

Governor's Palace, or as it is also called, the President Palace, which until 1917 served as the residence of the governor of Kazan with the premises of the Imperial Apartments, was built in its present form in the mid-IXX century by well-known architect Ton K.A., the author of Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. Currently the building houses the residence of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. The building was completely renovated in 1998-2001.
