The most Kyiv-like and most frequented of all Kyiv's streets is a shortcut from the Upper to the Lower City. Cobblestoned and packed with souvenir stalls, cafes and art galleries, it attracts large crowds of both city residents and foreign tourists. According to the Guardian newspaper, boasts one of the world's best observation decks, which is included in the list of the 10 best views on the Planet Earth. Dominating the street is the mid-18th century St.Andrew's Church inscribed in the list of 1000 wonders of the Planet Earth (Germany). Flanked with the 19th and early century mansions, most of which are architectural monuments in dire need of renovation. Like Parisian Montmartre, in the early 20th century the street was home and a hangout for renowned Ukrainian painters and sculptors.

Inscribed in the 1000 Wonders of the World, St.Andrew's Church stands on the legendary hill blessed by the Apostle Andrew the First-Called in the 1st century AD when he was returning from Asia Minor to Rome. St. Andrew's Hill marks the exact place where Kiev began to exist in the late 5th century AD.

St.Andrew's Church terrace overhangs the low-lying district of Podil and offers stunning views of the Dnipro River, Podil and Kiev's dormitary districts on the river left bank.
