About this activity
Early morning at 7:30 our chauffeur will pick you up from the hotel. From there we drive towards the Esplanade Metro Station to board the metro rail along with your tour guide. On the way we stop by various stations to visit the interesting places.
Kumartuli
At Kumartuli the idols of gods come to life. A small village of artisan, Kumartuli is famous for housing artist who makes beautiful idols. They make about 40,000 idols in a year out of which 3,500 images belong to Durga.
Marble Palace
Made up of Italian Marble, the Marble Palace of Kolkata looks magnificent. It was completed in 1835 and was built by a French architecture for Bengal’s richest landlord Raja Rajendra Mallick Bahadur. The palace is equipped with a collection of Western sculpture and Victorian furniture.
Tagore’s House
A big name in Indian society Tagore was known for his literary work. The Tagore House is the museum dedicated to the work of the greatest poet in India. It has a gallery that offers a sneak peek into the intimate family relations of Tagore through photographs. It also features a live size portrait of Tagore’s that is a display of his evolution to a poet philosopher.
Indian Museum
This Indian Museum is a great attraction for tourists that displays fossils, stones, Gandhara art and meteors. The monument was founded in 1814 and it showcases the collections that illustrate the cultural history of India from primitive to Muslim times.
Victoria Memorial
Victoria Memorial, was built in the loving memory of Queen Victoria, wife of the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon. It was built between 1906 to 1921 and it features a section of artifacts, paintings and memorial from the past. The Royal Gallery in the monument displays oil paintings that show important moments of the life of Queen Victoria.
Kalighat Kali Temple
The Kalighat temple dedicated to Goddess Kali is a popular temple in Kolkata. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and behind its formation there is an interesting legend. It is believed that Sati’s toes of the right feet fell here. The temple is thronged by tourist from all over the world to take blessings from goddess Kali.
After your tour we proceed back to Esplanade station by Metro Rail. From there the driver would drop you back at the hotel by a private car.
