Kbal Spean, the River of a Thousand Lingas

The present time, Khmer people still have a firm belief in sculptures and large trees.

Sequentially, while walking along a path toward a carved riverbed, we can see bunches of

incense, lotus flowers, and bananas devoted to large trees, a sculpture of Shiva and Uma.

They believe that big trees typically owned by apparitions.

Reaching the peak of the mountain, we see the 1, 000 lingas that carved by hermits who

lived in the area between the 11th and 12th centuries. These carving of vestiges began in

the reign of King Suryavarman I and finished by the reign of King Udayadityavarman II. It

also said that King Udayadityavarman II consecrated a golden ling. And they believed that

water flows from the Kbal Spean river into Angkor city is blessed by the sacred lingas.
