Stop At: Kampong Phluk Floating Village, Kampong Phluk, Siem Reap Cambodia

We'll start this tour by driving 30km southeast of Siem Reap town to Kampong Phluk. Although known as a floating village, it's not strictly ture. The houses here don't float, instead they sit on top of tall stilts. There are around 700 families living here and they are 100% ethnic Khmer. They make their living by fishing and farming the local area. Along the way, we'll stop at a beautiful local village to see the rice paddy fields with cows and buffaloes. Most of the houses at Kampong Phluk are on land, built on top of 8m stilts to protect them from flooding in the monsoon season when the water rises. They are made of a special type of wood which is durable in both dry and wet weather. The main houses are made of wood, palm leaves and with a tin roof. You can see floating fish farms, a crocodile farm, house shops and mobile boat shops too. There is also a flooded forest area to visit. The tour is available all year round but it takes a little longer to reach there in the dry season. When we've finished with the floating village, we'll take you to a local pagoda. Here, you'll meet a local Buddhist Monk who will perform a blessing for you. After this, we'll go to visit a real local market outside of the town. Here, you will get to see exactly how the locals live their daily lives.
