About this activity
Guests are picked up at 8:15am or 1:15pm at their hotel by the Jeep. Guests should wait in the lobby, be patient and be ready to go as soon as the jeep arrives.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you require hotel pickup, then you must tell us the name of the hotel and preferably the street when you book. If guests do not inform us of the pickup location, we cannot pick you up.

The tour starts with a 25 kilometres drive to the east arriving at the Kompong Phluk area.

Guests will then visit a pagoda or local market before boarding the motorised boat and touring the stilted buildings that comprise Kompong Phluk. Because boat rates can vary from time to time, we have not included this in our price and guests will be required to pay for the motorised boat ride on-site.

Guests are taken around the mind-blowing floating villages, where people have courageously adapted to some of the most unimaginable conditions, all with a big smile on their faces. Enjoy the beautiful atmosphere in this one-of-a-kind village from the comfort of the boats.

If an optional guide was booked, he explains about the history, the culture and the life style of the villagers. In fact, most of the buildings do not float, but are supported by long stilts, only part of which is exposed above the waterline.

Located within the floodplains of Tonle Sap, the village of tall stilted houses, is surrounded by serene flooded mangrove forest. A visit to the village provides a good insight into the way of life of the people whose livelihood depends on the ebb and flow of Tonle Sap Lake. The water level varies considerably and so Kompong Phluk will appear different depending on the season in which you visit.

Guests can take a side-excursion on a rowing boat for a tour of the flooded forest. This is only available for four months of the year, this being October to January. The water level is too low during the rest of the year for this side-excursion. Guests pay for this optional side-excursion on-site. We DO NOT recommend it.

The motorised boat stops at one of the small floating cafes for a drink or a quick bite to eat, or to see the crocodiles that some of the local people keep safely caged up. Crocodiles are kept for commercial purposes as they have valuable skins and their meat can be eaten too.

For guests taking the afternoon tour, the boat travels out onto the Tonle Sap where guests can see the sun go down and have a swim.

Please note that both the motorised boat and the rowing boat are operated by the Kompong Phluk community.

Our vehicle transports the guests back to their hotel.

Guests are normally dropped off at their hotel around four and a half hours after departure time.
