Stop At: Nishiki Market Shopping District, 609 Nishidaimonjicho Tominokoji Dori Shijoagaru, Nakagyo, Kyoto 604-8054 Kyoto Prefecture

One of the popular spots in Kyoto, Nishiki market has about 130 shops specialized in all things food related and souvenirs.

As I live quite near the Nishiki market and have seen the changing of shops and the atmosphere, show you the distinctive Kyoto food culture on this tour.

We meet in front of Apple store's doorway and enter the market from the west side. I show you the anecdotes of the market and my favorite shops, such as Uchida(Pickles), Marutsune(Fried Fish Paste), Uoriki(Pike Conger), Hiro(Wagyu), Aritsugu(Kitchen Knife),etc.

Some shops freely give out food samples, you can try anytime you like.

We take a tea break on the way, enjoy real warabimochi; a kind of Japanese sweet made of bracken-starch, with fresh kinako; toasted soybean powder. It has a jelly-like chewy texture, and is especially popular during summer season.

Our goal is Nishiki Tenmangu shrine at east end that gives us good luck for academic and business success. Let's visit together if you like.

It is okay to stop by stores you care about or get back there after the tour.
