About this activity
Climb the main crater of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano on this challenging hike. The trail leads you through different types of vegetation and trees to the summit at a height of about 5,925 feet (1,806 meters) with astounding views. On very clear days, you can see the Caribbean Sea, the great Nicaraguan Lake, and the Pacific Ocean! Located close to the top are the freshwater “Yiguerro” lagoon and the highest point, called the “Von Seebach”. This trail is a demanding 5 miles long (8 km) one way. This hike can be done only if you start early in the morning and if the weather conditions are good. (Please note, this trail may be periodically closed by Park officials due to high volcanic activity.) Transportation may be arranged by car (10 minutes) or horseback (45-minute ride) from the Hacienda to the National Park’s main gate and back. You can only enter the National Park by foot. Please note that the park is closed on Mondays.
