Stop At: The British Museum, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3DG England

The British Museum hosts some of the most famous and fascinating collections of historical artefacts in the world, bearing witness to the history of human kind.

Due to its sheer size, it would be really easy to get lost in its various galleries, rooms and aisles. Indeed, the British Museum contains over 8 million breathtaking exhibits and more than 70 galleries that paint an interconnected portrait of the world’s cultures from its beginning to the present day.

You will meet your guide just outside the British Museum, and after a short introduction to its architecture and history, you will start your journey to discover the wonders of this amazing museum, a must see when in London.

During the tour you will visit a few of the most important sections, such as the Egyptian, Greek and China and South Asia sections

Your guide will provide commentary and explanations as you discover the museum and its many perfectly preserved exhibits.

You will see the Rosetta Stone, the stone bust of the Great Pharaoh Ramesses II, the wall-paintings from the Nebamun tomb-chapel, the Egyptian Mummies, the Elgin Marbles, The Nereid Munuments, the Greek and Roman sculptures, the sculptures of The Mausoleum at Halikarnassos and much much more.

Moreover you will visit the China and South Asia gallery where artefacts document the history of China from 5000 BC to the present day. The gallery also hosts artefacts from the southern regions of Asia, such as the Indian sculptures of Shiva, the statues of the goddess Tara from Sri Lanka and paintings and objects from the courts of the Mughal emperors.

This tour is a fantastic way to get a taste of this great museum, which is visited by up to six million people a year. It is one of the most important landmarks in London.

The tour can last 2.5 or 3.5 hours, depending on how long you would like to spend in the museum and how in depth you would like your visit to be.

If you wish to have a more in depth experience at the British Museum, we suggest our 3,5-hour private guided tour, where in addition to the Egyptian, Greek and Asiatic rooms, you will also discover the Assyrian sections of the museum. Your guide will show you some carefully selected highlights such as the Assyrian sculptures and Assyrian reliefs, including the famous Lyons Hunt relief, the Colossal statue of a winged lion that stood at the entrance to the Temple of Ishtar, the goddess of war and the outstanding interior decoration of King Ashurnasirpal II from the Northwest Palace at Nimrud.
