The cosmopolitan and multiracial Notting Hill area is a city in itself, full of history, anecdotes and life! Join us to discover all the hidden stories of this fascinating district.
The world famous Portobello market and the annual Carnival are hosted in these streets; this was a rural area until the 19th century when it turned into a fashionable suburb, the post-second-world-war sees the district fall in disgrace becoming a shabby area of cheap lodgings.
At the end of the 50's a malevolent racist feeling envelop the area exploding in days of race riots which will involve hundreds of people; at the end of that year the first "Caribbean Carnival" was organised as a positive response to the riots.
While walking on Portobello road do not miss the n° 22, George Orwell lived here and here he wrote his masterpiece "Nineteen Eighty-four"; and just near the corner our local tour guide will be certain to highlight the Banski's graffiti.
