Why Watch Peter Pan

A retelling of JM Barrie’s most famous tale, Peter Pan is all set to take the stage at London’s West End. The National Theatre’s latest production guarantees to delight audiences, as it brings Barrie’s vivid imagination to life. Sally Cookson is the director of the play and has worked on numerous productions that have been showcased at some of the top theatres in London, such as Bristol’s Old Vic, Rose Theatre Kingdom, and London’s Old Vic. Cookson has been praised for bringing forth the fun and adventure in the story in a compelling adaptation.

The characters of the play have been praised by both the audience and critics. The casting of a female Captain Hook has been hailed as a brilliant move, and she brings forth a visceral performance as the bloodthirsty villain. The transition from the Lost Boys, who are dressed in knitted clothing and clutching teddy bears to ruthless pirates is brilliantly scripted. Cookson ensures that the audience is invested in the relationship between her characters, and ensures that the events unfolding have a profound impact on those watching the play.

The Story

Peter Pan is a mischievous little boy who does not grow up. He has the ability to fly and spends his time going on adventures with his friends to Neverland. Peter Pan is engaged in a long-standing feud with Captain Hook. He also enjoys going to the Darlings’ house in Bloomsbury at night and listens to Mrs. Darling’s bedtime stories by their window. One night, Peter Pan is spotted by the window, and he loses his shadow at the Darlings’ home while attempting to escape. He is forced to return to their house to claim it. He unwittingly wakes Mrs. Darling’s daughter, Wendy, while doing so. Wendy successfully reattaches Peter Pan’s shadow, and he learns that she knows a lot of stories. He then invites her to Neverland, posing as the mother of his gang, called the Lost Boys. Wendy agrees to go to Neverland and brings her two brothers, Michael and John along.

Join the peculiar group as they have numerous magical adventures. Will Peter Pan’s nemesis, Captain Hook, finally get the better of him as he is joined by his new friends?
