About this activity

Held without interruption since 1769, the Summer Exhibition displays works in a variety of mediums and genres.

The works in the Summer Exhibition are selected and hung by Royal Academicians – who also exhibit works in the exhibition, creating an eclectic mix of work by established artists alongside emerging talent and first-time exhibitors.

Most of the art in the show is for sale and purchases help raise money for the Academy’s non-profit-making activities, including educating the next generation of artists in the Royal Academy Schools.

This year, acclaimed British painter Jock McFadyen RA will take the mantle from Grayson Perry to co-ordinate the 251st Summer Exhibition.
