About this activity
Your private journey to the Ouzoud Falls begins with morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Meet your knowledgeable driver/guide, who will tell you tales about the region on your 85-mile (140-km) drive to the waterfalls in an air-conditioned vehicle. As you head toward Morocco’s towering Atlas Mountains, you’ll see villages, valleys, old mills and possibly wildlife along the way.
Take in the stunning view when you arrive at the Ouzoud Falls, which stand an inspiring 360 feet high (110 m). The brick-red cliffs contrast with the lush greenery of thousands of olive trees — ouzoud means ‘olive’ in the Berber language of Morocco — growing along the plateau. Take in panoramic views from the top of the falls, peering down at the awe-inspiring waters rushing into the deep ravine. Follow a small path to the lower level for even more refreshing views, where you’ll see six streams coming down the cliff and, if you’re lucky, a double rainbow. You can also hire a guide to take you to nearby caves.
Keep an eye out for the local macaque monkeys that call this area home on your way down the stone steps that lead to the bottom of the waterfall. After the waterfalls, enjoy a lunch of tagine, a traditional stew, at a restaurant in the shade of the olive trees (own expense). Relax on the drive back to Marrakech in the early evening, concluding with drop-off at your hotel.
