About this activity
Talking about Colombia and Medellin, its impossible not to mention Pablo Escobar, once Colombias most feared drug lord but at the same time loved for sponsoring charity projects and football clubs. This 3-hour Pablo Escobar Tour takes you back in time to three important places of Escobars life and death: first to the Monaco Building which was one of his residences, then to the house where he was killed and at last to the cemetery, his final resting place. Being the richest man in the world in 1975 it is not hard to believe that Pablo Escobar indulged in expensive cars, residences and even airplanes and still had enough money to make sure he was well-liked by millions of people. An example of his wealth is Escobars imposing residence in the neighborhood El Poblado where well start our tour. There he stayed with his family for many years and it was the place where the rival Cali cartel attempted to kill him with a planted bomb. On our way to the next stop well learn about Escobars extensive cocaine operation as well as his other residences like Hacienda Napoles, today a theme park but back then a luxurious estate that even included a private zoo. Arriving at the house where Escobar was killed, well hear about how he spent one year in a prison he build by himself with privileges like being allowed to choose his own guards. Well gain insights into his escape after it was decided to move him to a normal prison because he tortured and killed four men in his fortress. Hiding in his aunts house he was tracked down several months later and was shot death in a hail of bullets when he attempted to escape on the rooftop. At the end of our historical tour well visit Escobars burial place, also grave of his family, in the south of Medellin, not far from the neighborhood of Envigado where he grew up.
