About this activity

Celebrated by poets and painted by artists from every period, Lake Como is considered one of the most fascinating lakes in the world, so much so, as to be chosen as a holiday destination by several celebrities, including George Clooney. With this half-day tour you will discover the charm of the natural scenery of Lake Como and its magnificent villas, as well as the interesting history of the city.

After meeting your guide in Piazza Cavour, you'll start a relaxing walk in the center of the town: you'll start from Piazza Volta, which gets its name from the Como inventor of the electric battery, who the square, a monument, and even a museum are dedicated to. You will go down the ancient Via Vittani, via del Pero, via Luini, and Porta Torre, admiring the ancient walls, the memories of Como’s past, a strategic city both in Roman times (you can still see the remains of the Forum and the Baths) and in the Middle Ages, when Como contended its primacy to Milan, for geographic location and lively trades by the lake.

Through Via Vittorio Emanuele II, you'll head toward Piazza Duomo, where you’ll visit the cathedral inside. The Cathedral was built at the end of the 1300’s, with a magnificent facade decorated in marble and a rosette, perfectly preserved. Admire the tapestries that decorate the aisles and an extraordinary Renaissance altarpiece painted and carved gilt wood.

The second part of the morning will be spent pleasantly on a boat, with a cruise to the discovery of the first basin of the lake. You will be able to observe famous villas, such as Villa Erba with its Congress Centre in Cernobbio, a famous movie set. Who can forget the memorable scenes from Ocean's Twelve, with George Clooney, shot right there? You'll also see the famous Grand Hotel Villa d'Este, Villa Pizzo, Moltrasio with Villa Le Fontanelle-Versace, Torno with Villa Mia and Casta Diva Resort, Villa Roccabruna, Villa Belgioioso, and Villa Geno.

The tour ends at the end of the morning in Piazza Cavour. Visitors can comfortably go back to Milan by train, reaching Como’s North Station a few steps away, or decide to continue the day having lunch on the lake.
