Stop At: State Tretyakov Gallery, Lavrushinskiy ln 10, Moscow 119017 Russia

Old Tretyakov Gallery is located in the merchant district of Moscow, Zamoskvorechye— the area beyond the Moskva River and opposite the Kremlin. It resembles a fairy tale house and once belonged to Paul Tretyakov, a collector, patron of artists and a great patriot of Moscow and Russia. The house was profoundly restored and updated in the 1980s and is now a major museum featuring a collection of Russian art that traces the development of Russian culture from the 11th to the 20th centuries. Artwork includes a collection of ancient icons from Byzantium, Kiev Russ, Moscow, Novgorod and Pskov. One of the most recognized museums, it is also home to the world-renowned “Holy Trinity” by Andrei Rublev as well as the famous 11th century painting, “Our Lady of Vladimir.” Additionally, the museum features portraits of Emperors, Tsars, national heroes, poetic landscapes and battle scenes, and historic canvases.
