Stop At: Dharavi, Mumbai India

Popularly known as the largest slum in Asia, Dharavi is home to about 1 million people from across the country, who migrated to Mumbai hoping for a better life. With their grit and determination, these enterprising individuals developed small-scale industries which today, have an annual turnover of approximately US $665 million.

On this tour, you will walk through the narrow lanes of Dharavi and see it from close quarters, its residents and small-scale industries — recycling, ceramics, embroidery, soap making, bakery, to name a few. You will tour the recycling area, where old computer parts and plastics arrive from all over the world. At a community centre, you will see people learning skills such as languages, computers, dancing and yoga. Dharavi is also a brilliant symbol of unity in diversity. The area is home to people of all faiths and you will see the temples, churches and mosques, all in the same space.
