About this activity
Your guides come from Mathare, one of the biggest slums in Nairobi. All of them dropped out of primary school and raised themselves at an early age in the bustling streets of Nairobi Downtown. During a 3-hours walking tour in the city centre, your personal guides will make you experience their so-called former “home” and share with you their captivating life stories connected to the places you visit.

Starting at Hilton Hotel, your guides will take you to Downtown, where they tell you how they ended up in the streets, show you how they survived through hustling, begging and crime, teach you their street skills, give you the real local insights and inspire you with their ghetto-energy. Even more important, they will share with you how they transformed to reasonable young men, how they look back on their former lifestyle and how they are nowadays trying to improve the situation of their families and friends. Nobody will be able to give you these insights the way they do.

The tour is one-on-one (max. 2 guests per guide) to facilitate an inspiring exchange between you and your guides and to give you the opportunity to ask all your questions.

Nai Nami is a social impact project that develops new job opportunities for unemployed youth from slums.
