Among the five most famous gardens of Southern China, Zhanyuan Garden is the only well preserved Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) architectural complex in Nanjing. It is the oldest (over 600 years) among all the others in the city. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) once came here and gave it the name of Zhanyuan. After the establishment of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1851-1868), known as Taiping Tianguo in Pinyin, it became the residence of the Taiping Rebellion leaders Yang Xiuqing, Xiao Youhe and Lai Hanying. With frequent wars, it lay deserted for many years until its restoration by the government in 1960.
Duration: 50 minutes

Stop At: Confucian Temple Area (Fuzi Miao), Gongyuan Street, Nanjing China
The Confucius Temple in Nanjing was a place to worship and consecrate Confucius, a great philosopher and educator of ancient China. It is also known as Fuzimiao in Chinese. Originally, the temple was constructed in the year of 1034 in the Song Dynasty (420-589). It suffered repeated damage and has been rebuilt on several occasions since that time. 1937 was the most destruction when it was burnt to ruin by Japanese aggressors. In 1984 the temple was rebuilt under the support of the local government. During the long process, the original building expanded to be a complex building in the architectural style of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, including the Nanjing Confucius Temple itself, China Imperial Examination Museum and Xue Gong (the Imperial Academy). The complex is still called the Confucius Temple out of habit by locals and visitors.

Stop At: Yuejiang Tower, No.202 Jianning Road, Xiaguan District, Nanjing 210015 China
Yuejiang tower, at the Lion hill, was planned for building for almost 600 years, but they managed to start construction only in 1999, and unveil it for visitors in 2001. In the vicinity of the Lion hill in 1360 Zhu Yuanzhang, who later became the Emperor of China of the Ming dynasty with its 80 thousand army defeated 400 thousand army of Chen Youliang. 14 years later being a Hongwu, he took a decision to built the tower, but due to some unknown to me reasons, that decision was never realised at that time

In good weather there opens a wonderful view to the city, Yangtze river and bridge across it from the hill on which the Yuejiang tower stands.
