About this activity
In 1750, Charles of Bourbon decided to build the Royal Palace as the ideal center of the new Kingdom of Naples, and intended to compete with other European royal residences. The project was committed to architect Luigi Vanvitelli and inspired by Versailles, where Charles the VII had spent much time as guest of the French court.

Vanvitelli's wanted to built a magnificent palace and help develop the new city beside it, but unfortunately the Gran Viale between Naples and the great waterfall from the hillside of Briano, connecting the new capital with the far away metropolis, was never realized. Beyond housing for the royal family, Vanvitelli's plans for the Caserta Palace included a university, the ministries, a public library, the magistracy, a large theater, a seminary, and a cathedral church.

With your entrance ticket, visit the royal apartments, the paintings gallery and the Palatine chapel, the Quadreria with paintings from the deposits and, of course the gardens.
