Less busy and smaller than Pompeii, Herculaneum is considered by many to be a better preserved example of first-century life. See houses with their upper floors intact, the monumental basilica, the large spa complex and the gym.

The perfectly conserved wood and bronze parts, as well as various styles of Vesuvian painting, provide an excellent view of ancient life.
